SharePoint 2010 Application Pool Keeps Crashing

Recently I was implementing SharePoint 2010 and I ran into a strange issue that took me a while to fix but at the end i was able to fix it.

Basically the issue was that the SharePoint Application Pools kept on Crashing. The web application app pool, CA App Pool, and the security token web service app pool. even though i have checked all the following but still no resolution

1- If you check the event log errors you will see an error about the security token web service whihc is a new web service in SharePoint 2010 failing to login.

2- I have checked the app pool accounts passowrd and it was valid and working fine.

3- I have unprovision the CA and reprovisiond it again and still the same error

Finally after checking the system log i found that IIS app pool is complaining about the account not having the following security policies

1- Login as a service

2- Login as a batch Job

Once you give the account these two security permissions on the local servers it will work. Usually you grant those permission from Active Directory Group Polociy …so you need the system administrator of AD to assist you in granting the SharePoint Domain accounts the above permissions

Configure SharePoint 2010 User Profiles

I was working on a SharePoint 2010 implementation and i ran into an issue in configuring the User Profile. Therefore I will add the main points that allowed me to configure the user profile successfully

First go to the user profile service manager and configure synchronization then create connection to the Existing Active Directory

Ensure that the User Profile synchronization Service is started

Ensure that the Forefront Identity Manager synchronization Service and the Forefront Identity Manager Services is started (You can check them from Windows Services)

The FARM Account should be part of the Local Administrators group on the server where user profile will be deployed

Important Step: Ensure that the User Profile Access Account has ‘Replicate Directory Changes” Permission and part of the Farm Administration Group. See the following link on how to enable the ‘Replicate Directory Changes’ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/303972

Usually to give the account the “Replicate Directory Changes” you need to Ask the System Administrator because this permission is granted from the Active Directory

Finally start the Profile synchronization Service
